Big smells of exotic spices permeated the house today, as my loud, hairy family prepared our first Easter dinner. We’ll have to do it all over again next weekend, which is the Eastern Orthodox Easter. Not really sure why the Protestant/Catholic Easter is a different date, but it has something to do with the Orthodox calendar. So because mother’s family is Catholic and father’s family is Orthodox, we get to celebrate both. It’s a little hard to explain at school, but most of my school mates have little intellectual curiosity about Lebanon and the Middle East. They just know not to trust anyone from “the north,” as in North America.
Here are some pictures of our dinner. For some reason, we all have to get up and dance after dinner, as Arabic music wails. Can’t believe the neighbors don’t report us.
